CERTIFIED MED TECH (CMA)

Course duration: 30 Hours (5 days), 6 Hours/Day, 3 Medication Classes

This course specializes in preparing Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) to administer non-injectable medications safely, legally, and precisely. CMAs typically work in various healthcare settings like Assisted Living Facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing Homes, and Group Homes. To enroll in this course, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Course Objectives:

  1. NJ Certified as a Certified Nursing Aide or Certified Homemaker Health Aide
  2. Have a current criminal background check.
  3. Has a good standing with the Board of Nursing and the NJ DHSS
  4. Must complete 3 medication passes under the direction of an approved CMA RN or Pharmacist Trainer

Upon finishing this course, students should possess expertise in:

  • Ensuring workplace safety
  • Correct administration of medications
  • Understanding drugs’ impact on body systems
  • Various types of antibiotics
  • Medications affecting the eyes, ears, and skin
  • Pediatric patient care
  • Assisting with care planning
